Offences, penalties and challans
Other language: हिंदी
Read the specific provision before assuming a national fixed fine or an automatic warning.
Chapter XIII covers different violations and procedures; the 2026 amendments distinguish fines, penalties and warnings in several provisions. Section 177 now provides a recorded warning for the first contravention only where no fine or penalty is provided for that offence. It is not a first-offence exemption from every traffic provision. Specific sections address conduct such as dangerous driving or drunken driving with their own elements and consequences.
Section 200 allows compounding for the offences it lists by notified officers or authorities and for amounts specified by the State Government. Compounding is not a permission to pay any amount to any person. Section 210A allows State-notified multipliers subject to Central conditions. The actual process also depends on the cited provision, repeat-offence facts, rules and notifications. Use the government eChallan service or competent State authority to check an issued challan; Banaka neither looks it up nor accepts payment.
Fictional example
Fictional example: two readers see different challan amounts and compare the cited section, repeat-offence status and State notification. One screenshot cannot establish a universal rate for every State and circumstance.
